Lamb Health:
All lambs will be sold with a registered Scrapies ear tag, vaccinated for CDT (both doses), dewormed, and treated with a coccidia preventative. All ewe lambs and intact ram lambs will be sold registered with the Finnsheep Breeders Association, and their papers will be transferred in a timely fashion to the buyer upon complete sale. Wethers will not be registered.
Kid Health:
All kids will be sold tattooed, disbudded, vaccinated for CDT (both doses), dewormed, and treated with a coccidia preventative. All doelings and intact bucklings will be sold either registered with the American Dairy Goat Association, and their papers will be transferred in a timely fashion to the buyer upon complete sale, or with a registration application. Wethers will not be registered.
Our herd is tested annually and is guaranteed negative for Caprine Arthritis Encephalitis (CAE - goats), Ovine Progressive Pneumonia (OPP - sheep), Johne's Disease, and Caseous Lymphadenitis (CL). Our stock are raised on a coccidia preventative treatment that occurs every 3 weeks beginning at 3 weeks old. We highly recommend this treatment be continued until 6 months of age. Our livestock are guaranteed to be healthy at the time of sale. Due to the sensitive nature of young animals, we cannot guarantee their health once they leave the property. We welcome the buyer to have their veterinarian come to our farm and examine their chosen lamb/kid and if a health defect is found, we will gladly offer a full refund. Certificates of Veterinary Inspection (CVIs) are obtained at buyer's expense.
Waitlist:
The waitlist opens annually on August 1. You may join the waitlist with no extra cost. The purpose of the waitlist is to allow you to be notified when our lambs or kids are born.
Once our animals are born, you will be notified that there is an animal available for sale that you expressed previous interest in. If we do not hear from you in 72 hours, we will move on to the next person on the waitlist. If you respond after they do, you will be placed below them in the waitlist.
If you respond within 72 hours and are not interested in the animal offered to you at that time, you will retain your place on the waitlist. You reserve the right to refuse any offer in favor of a different animal, but we can not promise that your desired animal will be born. If you are not interested in any livestock born that year, or if we do not reach you on the waitlist, you will be moved to the top of the waitlist for next year.
Reservations:
Reservations are for those who would like to reserve a specific sex lamb from a specific breeding prior to the birth of the litter. We open two ewe lamb and two ram lamb reservations, except for those breeding pairs where we plan to retain lambs from the litter. In special situations we may open a third reservation based on ultrasound results. We ask $150 for a reservation. By placing a reservation, that lamb is guaranteed yours once he/she is born. If your reserved sex of lamb is not born, you have the option of either transferring your deposit onto a different available lamb or having your deposit refunded. However, if your reserved lamb is born, your deposit will not be refunded should you decide you no longer want your lamb.
Reservations are honored in the order they are received, and we accept 2 ewe reservations and 2 ram reservations per breeding. Currently we are only accepting reservations on bucklings. Not all reservation slots may be open if we intend to retain a lamb or kid from a specific breeding. A reservation is not made until we receive your deposit. We will notify the buyer when their chosen lamb is born. If we do not hear back within 10 days of notification, the lamb may be sold to another buyer and deposit will be forfeited. If the buyer’s choice of lamb is not available they can hold over the deposit to the following year, transfer it to another available lamb or request a refund. We do not offer refunds to buyers who cancel their reservation or reject a reserved lamb.
Lambs will be held for you until they are 8 weeks old for rams, and 10 weeks old for ewes. Deposits will not be taken on wethers. Wethers must be paid in full before they are castrated. This is so that we know the wethers will have a good home to go to. We will not wether any males after they reach 12 weeks of age for their own safety.
NEW POLICY: Please note, as of January 1st, 2022 we will be introducing a new policy that we will be charging a boarding fee of $5 per head per day for lambs who remain on our property after the appropriate time designated for pick up which is decided by HedgeHog HIll Farm. March and April lambs may be held until July 1st, after which a boarding fee will be charged for every day they remain on the property. May and June lambs will be held until September 1st, after which a boarding fee will be charged. The only exception is for lambs being transported outside of New England or NY. We recognize that transporters may have varying schedules and logistics can become complicated, so we will make an exception in this situation. If HHH Farm decides a lamb must be held past this specified date, the boarding fee will not be charged.
Any deposit placed is nonrefundable except in the event that something happens to the selected animal while he/she is under the care of HedgeHog Hill Farm. In this case, first choice of all available animals will be offered to the buyer or the deposit will be refunded. The deposit will not be refunded if you decide you are no longer interested in purchasing an animal from us.
Discounts:
We may offer a discount on the purchase of multiple animals. We will have unrelated ram lambs and bucklings for those looking for a starter herd.
Adult Animals for Sale:
We may offer adult animals for sale every season. We do not take reservations for mature stock but you can be placed on the waitlist.
